Development of microbial plant culture-based biostimulators with a specific function for the production of fertilizer products (including mineral-fertilizers, organic and/or organic-mineral).

Project objectives

The idea of the project is to develop microbial plant culture-based biostimulators with a specific function and technologies for their use for the production of fertilizer products (including mineral fertilizers, organic and/or organic-mineral) to reduce carbon-intensive agrochemicals and promote the soil microbiome for farmers, organic producers and fertilizer producers.

The planned result of the project

Agriculturally oriented crop- specific domestic origin used throughout the temperate geographical region, microbial plant culture-based biostimulators with a specific function for wheat, rapeseed, alfalfa, which, individually or in the composition of fertilizer products, increase the yield of the crop, enrich the plant's microbiota and thereby improve plant health, resistance to abiotic stress factors (e.g. climate change) due to higher air temperature, drought, stronger wind, etc.; anthropogenic factors, e.g. heavy metals in the soil, etc.). As an added value of the project, new scientific information will be generated about the distribution routes of antibiotic resistance genes and the possibilities for their control, which in turn will help increase the healthiness of the microbiota of animals and humans.

Health4Cardio EE-LV00035

Jointly and smartly growing businesses

Specific objective: 2.1: Enhancing sustainable growth and competitiveness of SMEs and job creation in SMEs, including by productive investments

Short description

Health4Cardio is a cross-border cooperation project between BioCC OÜ (Estonia) and SISTEMU INOVACIJAS JSC – Si Biotech (Latvia). The project’s focus is to use cross-border knowledge transfer to improve the partners’ capacity to develop a prototype of an innovative new dietary supplement. The partners have their own individual strengths and expertise in production and distribution. BioCC works with high qualitative lactic acid bacteria cultures and is competent in conducting clinical trials with probiotics and functional foods, whereas Si Biotech is specialized in the extraction of natural substances using modern and green extraction methods, (CO2 supercritical fluid extraction) both for research and production. The common challenge is to find a technological solution to combine a clinically researched and patented probiotic bacteria strain with sea-buckthorn (Hippiophae rhamnoides) seed oil and find a suitable delivery form to determine health benefits for cardiovascular- and gut health.

Result

Completing these actions will create innovative technologies through sharing of knowledge and consequential product development. A jointly developed technology will raise both partners’ competitiveness and growth thanks to cross-border cooperation, knowledge transfer, and innovation.

HEALTHY FOOD (EU48686)

Short description of the project

BioCC OÜ, in cooperation with its partners, develops new science-based solutions throughout the entire food chain — from animal breeding, feeding and keeping to the creation of health-friendly products and clinical trials to prove their healthiness.

In the course of research and development, innovative biotechnological solutions for the creation of feed additives, foods and nutritional supplements are created and implemented, integrating and developing BioCC, partners and international microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, metabolomics, genomics, bioinformatics, physiology and clinical competence.

Targets:

  1. to develop products with increased nutrient density for the general population and specific population groups

  2. to develop functional products on the basis of probiotic strains

  3. to establish a biotechnological platform based on biomarkers and novel selection traits for resource-effective production of high-quality raw milk with elevated nutrient density to meet increased consumer demand.

Results

In the course of the project, new zootechnical and technological additives, probiotic microbes, fermentation microbes for food products and functional health-supporting products for various target groups are developed, including probiotic food supplements, services related to the functionality and effect of food and animal feed, and a laboratory for clinical and physiological research. A cattle welfare protocol was drawn up, the implementation of which makes it possible to more effectively find connections between dairy cow milk components and welfare markers, contributing to the improvement of health indicators and production efficiency. Developed novel selection traits and new selection technologies and specific genomic research for resource-efficient production of high-quality raw milk.
