Lactic acid bacteria Lactiplantibacillus plantarum E-98 (NCIMB 30236)
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum E-98 has been isolated and developed by BioCC OÜ in cooperation with Starter ST OÜ.
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum E-98 has passed the panel of experts of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and has been approved as a silage preservative with proven properties.
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum E-98 is registered in the feed register of the European Union as a silage preservative, for which Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) no.1111/2011 (Official Journal of the European Union L 287/30).

L. plantarum E-98 properties and use:
-
Supports and directs silage fermentation - suitable for grasses and nerfed leguminous grasses and their mixtures. More than 40 silage experiments have been carried out both with pure grasses and leguminous grasses, as well as with mixtures of grasses and leguminous plants in different proportions;
-
accelerates fermentation and ensures a rapid and stable drop in pH. The lactic acid produced by the lactic acid bacteria quickly makes the silage environment acidic, preserving the feed and accelerating the fermentation process;
-
improves the quality of silage fermentation. Rapid lowering of pH inhibits the development of undesirable microorganisms in silage, as a result of which fermentation breakdown products arising during false fermentation are avoided. Decomposition products reduce food intake in animals and cause health problems;
-
reduces dry matter and protein losses during fermentation. By preventing the life activity of microorganisms that cause silage spoilage, nutrients are preserved in the feed, which the animal can use for production;
-
unique ability to reproduce in an environment with limited sugars. There is no need for enzymes because it uses fructan (FOS-fructooligosaccharides) as a carbohydrate source, which is always found in grasses.

BioCC has granted a license to Lactiplantibacillus plantarum E-98 Starter ST OÜ to produce the silage preservative NordSil®.
