Clinical and physiological research laboratory
The BioCC clinical and physiological research laboratory, unique in Estonia and the Baltics, studies the safety, tolerability and efficacy of food and feed in vivo in accordance with EU and international legislation and scientific practice.
The Clinical Research Laboratory carries out clinical studies on the efficacy of foods and food supplements on human health and physiological parameters. Impact studies are nowadays an essential part of testing the health effects of food and food substances and of understanding, promoting and proving the positive health effects of functional foods. The data collected will help companies to gain a science-based insight into any food product.
The laboratory has an experienced team, know-how and techniques for quantitative and qualitative analysis of biological material of human origin.
Over the last 10 years, BioCC has conducted more than 20 clinical trials in collaboration with project partners (companies and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu) to test the effects of functional foods and dietary supplements on various health outcomes.
Immunochemical analyses
The service includes the simultaneous detection of several different assays from a single blood sample using the Evidence Investigator (Randox) biochip immunoassay. The method can be used for the analysis of both clinical and veterinary samples.
The Metabolic Syndrome Marker Kit for the determination of ferritin, interleukin-6 (IL-6), insulin, leptin, plasminogen activation inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), resistin and tumour necrosis factor α (TNFα) is a BioCC Clinical and Physiological Research Laboratory method.
Other marker sets (e.g. CytokineArray with up to 12 markers) are available for immunological studies by prior agreement only.
